The Music...
30 young people had signed up for the
project, out of the 30 young people 25 attended. The project was delivered
during August and everybody had the opportunity to work in the professional
recording studio for the music half of the project and further opportunity
to work on the design of the covers and to paint a big backdrop in
the photography/art studio for the shared image.
The young people worked
very well in the Music Studio and were very impressed in the equipment
being used. They were able to have input in what they wanted the music
to sound like and felt very comfortable when performing in front of
the others. They were able to use the equipment and enjoyed working
with the engineer, they showed a lot of respect for the equipment
and the engineer.
Some of the young people
did not make or have their own beats with them, they were given beats
to use by other members of the group, which is a really good gesture
as a lot of people would not like anyone else to use music which they
created.
The Artwork...
Group Working in the
Art Studio had brainstorming session about the image they wanted for
their CD covers and drew and wrote down what the text was to be and
ideas of the picture. Each of the young people had a photo shoot and
then all had a group shot. They then painted a backdrop, which was
used as the back cover of the CD’s. This encouraged team working skills
and created the opportunity to become more confident of expressing
their ideas with others. They worked with the Artist using photo shop
to make the images and came up with some fantastic ideas.
The group was made up of mixed genders, more males than females all
from the ages of 16 - 19. The ethnicity of the group was also quite
mixed with Black Caribbean, White British, Mixed Black Caribbean &
White, Asian Pakistani & Black African. The whole group worked very
well together.
Overall, all the young people said they
thoroughly enjoyed the project and would do another one, they said
that they wished the opportunity was there all the time. They would
like the sessions to be longer and would love to have more studio
time.
