Snap (Social Needs Awareness Project) operates from the 1st floor of the Hat Factory, a creative arts venue located next to Luton train and bus station in the town centre.

Snap provides a two-day drop-in every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11.30 am - 4.30pm where local young people have free of charge access to diversionary, community arts activities.

Snap aims to introduce young people, who are marginalised from traditional arts activities, by introducing them to creative experiences and facilities and offering them an arts environment which supports independent cultural expression, skills building and personal development motivation and enables the production of peer-aimed images.
The project primarily uses young people's issues for discussion, and photography to explore and create themed images. The work involved leaves a positive impact on the participants own sense of self. Recent themes have tackled youth safety issues including: Gun crime, Sex, Healthy Baby Awareness, Friendships, Homelessness, Alcohol and Drug use and Mental Health.

The images are of a professional standard and have been used for exhibitions, posters and postcards to promote young peoples alcohol & drug services. The postcards have been invaluable in providing helpline contacts for Luton NHS Primary Care Team on Homelessness, Alcohol and Drugs, Sexual Health and Mental Health.

Snap aims to..

• Support participant's queries in relation to Homelessness, Benefits and a variety of health promotion issues.
• Encourage and promote young people to take up millennium volunteering, education, and employment and training opportunities so that they can achieve their potential as young adults.
• Undertake outreach work as well as facilitate projects in-house within a professional photographic studio environment. Young people are actively encouraged to tap into their creative potential by developing new skills in set and costume design, creating backdrops, make up and modeling. Most important of all is that participation develops self-esteem and confidence through the group work experience.
